Chris Evans has hinted that he may not return to television after telling a fan that his breakfast radio show is his “limit”, according to a new report.
The broadcaster, who notably co-presented Channel 4’s The Big Breakfast and TFI Friday, allegedly told a fan he wants to focus on spending time with his family, rather than more work.
According to the Mirror, Evans was asked by a fan if he had any plans to appear on TV again any time soon, to which he responded: “No can do. Family time is everything to me. Radio in the a.m. is my limit.”
The Standard has contacted Chris Evans’ representative for comment.
Evans first found fame as the presenter of Don’t Forget Your Toothbrush, which he fronted for one year on Channel 4 from 1994.
He previously fronted co-presented Channel 4’s The Big Breakfast from 1992 to 1994 alongside Gaby Roslin, before later fronting TFI Friday from 1996 to 2000 and again in 2015.
The TV star also appeared as a Friday co-presenter for The One Show on BBC One from 2010 to 2015.
He then went on to present BBC’s Top Gear in 2016 for one series after Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond departed for Amazon’s The Grand Tour.
Away from television, Evans returned to Virgin Radio in 2019 to present the Weekday Breakfast Show after eight years at the helm of BBC Radio 2’s Breakfast Show, which Zoe Ball now hosts.
The 56-year-old originally joined Radio 2 in 2005 as presenter of the Saturday afternoon show before moving to drivetime in 2006 and then moving to the Breakfast Show in 2010.
He had previously hosted Virgin’s breakfast show, from 1997 to 2001, but he was sacked for “breach of contract” after failing to turn up for work after highly-publicised drinking sessions with then-wife Billie Piper.
Evans married his wife Natasha Shishmanian in 2007, and welcomed four children together.
He was married to singer and actress Piper from 2001 to 2007 and Loose Women star Carol McGiffin from 1991 to 1998.
