As the weather on Sunday afternoon went from hot and sultry to cool and breezy, it was a good-enough sign for the city residents to step out of home. Hundreds of families took the opportunity to visit Wings India 2022 at the Begumpet airport, on the concluding day.
The airport teemed with visitors, who could enter after buying a ticket. Middle-aged parents with their young children in tow could be spotted almost everywhere, wanting to get as close as possible to the aircraft on display. Visitors got a clear sight of the planes moving on the runway. The kids jumped with joy every time an aircraft took off or touched down. But it was the Indian Air Force’s Sarang’s spectacular air show that made everyone stop in their tracks and stare at the flying objects overhead.
Before the weather turned pleasant, visitors at Wings India were seen ambling around and resting in between at the food court tents, shades of old terminals, and under the wings of aircraft, which had been displayed under the open sky. The change of weather brought a smile to the weary faces.
One among the hundreds of visitors was a member of the airport housekeeping staff, K. Savithri, who had brought her children to the biennial expo. “Since it is held only once in two years, I make it a point to bring the children here to see the planes,” she said with a smile.
At a little distance was a family of seven, curious to learn all about the functioning of planes and names of the aircraft on display. “We are from Hyderabad itself, but it’s our first time at the expo. We wanted to show the planes to our children,” said Rekhya, a visitor.
Around 60,000 visitors and 5,000 business delegates thronged the airport for Wings India. The show attracted 125 exhibitors from various parts of the country and even abroad.
