Cho Gue-sung Celtic transfer competition as European big hitters make 'enquiry' about World Cup star

Celtic could face major competition in their pursuit of South Korean forward Cho Gue-sung.

It’s being reported that the Hoops are interested in the star striker, who seemed to turn heads across the globe by scoring two goals in three minutes against Ghana for his country at the World Cup. And Ange Postecoglou knows the player well as the attacker scored against his Yokohama F Marinos team in 2020 in the Asian Champions League.

Postecoglou previously spoke of Celtic's plan to add to their attacking arsenal in the winter window, and with reports that Greek forward Giorgos Giakoumakis could be looking to leave over a contract dispute, the Hoops boss may have to accelerate some deals.

Yet one European giant in the frame for Gue-sung is Borussia Dortmund, and it appears the Bundesliga side have already sounded out a leading former player to get the low-down on Cho. Former South Korean international Lee Young-pyo told CBS radio: "After the first game against Uruguay, the technical director of a very good club in Europe contacted me about a scout report for Cho Gue-sung."

Lee added that this person was someone he played with while at Borussia Dortmund and that they had asked for a profile on the 24-year-old. He has over 50 career goals across the Korean top flight and second divisions and the brace against Ghana made it six goals in full internationals from 18 caps.
