Chip shop attacked after owner celebrates death of Queen

A fish and chip shop was "egged by a mob" after its owner appeared on video seemingly celebrating the death of Queen Elizabeth II. In a since-deleted video, the apparent owner of Jaki Fish and Chip Shop, located in the village of Muir of Ord near Inverness in the Scottish Highlands, can be seen standing outside her business with a placard that reads "Lizard Liz is dead! London bridge has fallen" alongside a smiley face, whilst she repeatedly cheers "London Bridge has fallen, woohoo!" and shakes a bottle of fizzy wine in celebration.

It's understood the video was recorded just minutes after news of the Queen's death on Thursday was confirmed - but within moments of its posting, an angry group of local residents reportedly surrounded the takeaway and threw eggs and ketchup at its windows.

In a series of tweets, Twitter user @DavidMackayy shared pictures of the scene and commented on locals' reaction to the fish and chip shop's video. In one tweet, he said: "Just been to Jaki's in Muir of Ord: windows covered in tomato sauce and egged. Shop inside must have been cleaned up, very clean inside, no sign of broken windows as previously suggested."

"Live at Jaki's shop in Muir of Ord, absolute chaos right now," he wrote in another Tweet, "Police in attendance, crowds gathering."

"Police now guarding Jaki's, local residents say they're going to burn the place down," he added in another.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland told the Evening Standard: "Shortly after 8.30pm on Thursday, September 8 officers attended at a business in the Seaforth Road area of Muir of Ord following a report of a large crowd gathered in the area. Officers remained at the scene to ensure the safety of all present and the group subsequently dispersed peacefully. No further police action has been required.”

Since the video of the fish and chip shop went viral, the National Federation of Fish Friers has reportedly revoked the business' membership, the Evening Standard reports. A spokesperson reportedly said: "The NFFF has been made aware of social media posts made by one of our members that are in extremely bad taste and completely against all of the values our organisation and industry hold dear. We have discussed this as a board and have taken the decision to revoke the membership of this business owner and we will be writing to them and asking them to remove all association of the NFFF from her business, social media and websites."
