China’s top diplomat Wang Yi has been engaged in a series of high-profile diplomatic meetings this week, addressing the ongoing conflicts in Gaza and Ukraine. Wang facilitated talks between 14 Palestinian factions in Beijing, including Hamas and Fatah, in an effort to promote reconciliation. This was followed by a historic meeting with Ukrainian counterpart Dmytro Kuleba, marking the first time China has hosted a senior Ukrainian official since Russia's invasion nearly two and a half years ago.
Wang emphasized China's support for peace efforts in both conflicts, positioning the country as a neutral peace broker. The Chinese government aims to showcase its role in resolving global conflicts and present itself as an alternative mediator to the United States.
