China’s consul general in New York has been expelled following the arrest of a former aide for New York governors Kathy Hochul and Andrew Cuomo on charges of acting as an agent for the Chinese government. New York Governor Hochul made the announcement on Wednesday, revealing that she had spoken with a high-ranking State Department official at the request of Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
During the event, Governor Hochul expressed her desire to have the consul general expelled, and shortly after, it was confirmed that the individual is no longer part of the New York mission. This move comes as a significant development in the ongoing efforts to address concerns related to foreign influence and espionage activities within the United States.
