China accused of cyber-attack on Britain - Tech & Science Daily podcast

China has been accused of a “malign” cyberattack on Britain.

The UK government claims the country accessed millions of voters’ personal details during a hack on the election watchdog.

The hackers are said to have accessed the names and addresses of anyone in Britain who was registered to vote between 2014 and 2022.

Ocean conservation charity The Blue Marine Foundation is taking the UK government to court, over claims it allowed overfishing.

According to the charity, the government repeatedly set fishing opportunities (the specific legal entitlement to fish based on quantity or area) higher than scientific advice.

Charles Clover, co-founder of the Blue Marine Foundation, told Tech & Science Daily the rates of overfishing could lead to species disappearing from UK waters for good.

Some parents have described the online harassment of girls as ‘normal’ according to a study by online safety charity Internet Matters.

The study was based on 12 in-depth interviews with teenage girls and parents, carried out from November 2023 to January 2024 by BMG Research.

A mother with a 15-year-old daughter said in an interview with Internet Matters that sexually explicit images from men are "so standard it's not noteworthy and they just block it and move on".

The charity found that 77% of girls aged 13 to 16 in the UK report digital experiences that are or may be harmful.

The director of the critically acclaimed Baldur’s Gate 3 has revealed there will be no downloadable content, expansions or sequels to the game.

It won six prizes at The Game awards in 2023, including Game of the Year, Best Role Playing Game and Best Multiplayer Game.

Swen Vincke made the shock announcement at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco that there will be no additional content.

Swen said the studio, Larian, did actually start work on creating downloaded content, and even considered doing a sequel, before cancelling it to focus on other projects.
