Chilli peppers could hold the key to curing cancer, according to new research. Capsaicin, the compound responsible for their fiery flavour, stops tumours from spreading.
It combats multiple forms of the disease - but can lead to severe complications. Administration using "sustained release drug delivery systems" is the answer, say scientists.
They include water soluble vessels, fatty shells such as liposomes or phospholipids and other nanoparticles. Doses can be programmed over a long period - reducing risk of gastrointestinal problems.
