This is the chilling footage that shows a van driver drifting across lanes of the M4 just moments before he slammed into a family's stationary car at 57mph and killed two children. Martin Newman, 41, was witnessed by other horrified drivers weaving across the motorway in the minutes before the horror crash.
Painter and decorator Newman, who also worked in an Aldi distribution centre, had been sipping from a bottle of wine while at the wheel and using his phone to make calls. He was more than twice the drink-drive limit, having consumed spirits as well as 10 cans of Strongbow, and had taken cocaine while in a Leicester Travelodge hours before the crash.
The incident on February 5 this year claimed the lives of four-year-old Gracie-Ann Lucas and three-year-old Jayden-Lee Lucas, who were both also known by the surname Wheaton. Their mother Rhiannon Lucas, who spent a week in hospital after the collision which killed her beloved children, issued a poignant statement following the hearing describing her unimaginable pain.
