This is the chilling moment a baby killer was seen running away from the scene after crashing into a pram carrying a newborn baby while driving at 67 miles per hour.
CCTV footage released by West Midlands Police shows the moment James Davis, 35, lost control of his BMW before ploughing into two-week-old Ciaran Leigh Morris, near Walsall, on Easter Sunday last year.
In the footage, Davis can be seen first clipping a car coming in the opposite direction before veering towards the pavement where parents Camaron and Codie were walking with their newborn.
Little Ciaran was taken to the hospital but sadly his injuries were too severe to survive. His mum also suffered a broken collar bone.
In the aftermath of the smash, Davis got out of the car and fled the scene before he was later arrested by police.
Police body-cam footage officers approaching Davis while outside his girlfriend's house drinking a can of coke.
PC Tom Rust tells him: "You're aware of the seriousness of the situation, hence why we are here."
Davis says: "I only ran off from the people not the police. I was on the main road flagging police down but they were just driving past.
"If people are screaming I've killed a babbie and if I have done this, I just want to see my babbie before I go. Do you know what I mean mate?
"My mate was in the car with me and he's said I just passed out, said I've fainted behind a wheel and hit another car.
"Then I've just rolled up the path into somebody."
Other footage released by police shows Davis speeding at 67mph in a 30mph zone moments before the fatal smash.
Davis was charged with death by dangerous driving, causing death by driving while uninsured, failing to stop at the scene of a collision and failing to report a collision.
He was remanded in prison until his trial at Wolverhampton Crown Court which started on Monday 28 March.
Today, Davis was guilty at Wolverhampton Crown Court of causing the death of a two-week-old baby by dangerous driving.
Jurors deliberated for two hours and six minutes and also found Davis guilty of causing the death of Ciaran Morris by driving while uninsured.
Judge John Butterfield QC sentenced Davis to six-and-a-half years behind bars and banned him from driving for seven years and three months.
Ciaran's parents said in a heartbreaking statement: "Ciaran our precious baby boy, in the short time he was with us, was loved so much.
"The unexpected and sudden circumstances of losing Ciaran have caused great pain and our lives will never be the same without him.
"Our family would be grateful if you can please now allow us to grieve in private."
Detective Sergeant Julie Lyman, from the force's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "The death of baby Ciaran shocked the community and support poured in for his young parents.
"Their grief at what should have been one of the happiest times of their lives is unimaginable and the conviction of Davis cannot compensate for their loss.
"Our thoughts remain with them and their families."
