Chili’s sales turnaround has chain preparing to open more restaurants

  • Chili's parent company, Brinker International, plans to open 20 to 30 new restaurant locations per year through fiscal 2029 following a major sales turnaround.
  • The expansion comes after five years of strong sales growth, with same-store sales surging 71 percent and average annual restaurant sales rising to $5 million.
  • Brinker has identified up to 300 potential new sites, targeting high-performing states like Texas , Florida , and California , alongside underpenetrated markets and smaller towns.
  • Chili's attributes its momentum to value-focused promotions like its Better Than Fast Food campaign, a simplified menu, and $180 million in operational and technology upgrades.
  • Alongside new builds costing $5 million to $6 million each, the company plans to remodel approximately 110 existing restaurants annually beginning in fiscal 2028.
