Authorities have revealed that Fernando Andres Jimenez Meza, a Chilean national, is accused of shooting his girlfriend and her two teenage sons in a townhouse in Somers, New York. The incident, which occurred on October 28, resulted in the death of the girlfriend's 15-year-old son, Michael Raimondi, while the mother and her 13-year-old son sustained injuries.
Jimenez Meza, who had been deported from the United States two decades ago, allegedly used an illegally possessed handgun in the shooting. The 40-year-old suspect was apprehended in Putnam Valley after a manhunt led by a retired NYPD detective turned real estate agent.
During a vigil held in memory of Michael Raimondi, teachers described him as a creative and imaginative individual with a passion for origami, cars, and Legos. The tragic incident has sparked outrage, with U.S. Rep. Mike Lawler emphasizing the need for stricter immigration enforcement.
Jimenez Meza's immigration history includes being caught entering the country illegally in 2004 and voluntarily deported to Mexico. In 2018, he was arrested for drunken driving and reportedly faced assault charges, although details of the case remain sealed.
Currently held at Westchester County Jail without bail, Jimenez Meza faces charges of second-degree murder, second-degree attempted murder, and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. The case has reignited debates on immigration policies and enforcement measures in the United States.
