Children's adventure playground 40 minutes from Nottingham named best for all ages

With Easter on the horizon parents will be looking for ways to fill their children's two weeks off school. So it couldn't be better timing that an adventure playground in the region has been named the 'best for all ages' by The Times newspaper.

Seven playgrounds across the UK were highlighted including one at Belvoir Castle, over the Nottinghamshire border in Leicestershire. The playground is inspired by the historic architecture of the estate and its past and present explorers. Featuring a giant timber fortress, along with a ship and towers and set within the magical woodland, the playground has something for all ages in an open-air adventure.

The article said: "There are four acres in which to tire out little legs at this new playground in the grounds of 11th-century Belvoir Castle. Children can wage battle in their own giant timber fortress, race through tunnels to a secret climbing wall and explore the wooden replica of HMS Resolution, peering through portholes, scrambling up climbing nets and exiting via a zip wire that snakes through the trees. Bring tiny adventurers too — they’ll love the mini bridge, slide and tunnel."

The playground is free for children under four; 4-16 years £4; adult £3; and family (two adults, three children) £12.

A new Friends of Belvoir Castle Gardens and Playground pass has also been introduced in time for Easter to offer affordable options for unlimited visits to the garden and playground throughout the year. The annual pass is priced at £12.50 child; £25 adult; £50 family with one adult and up to three children; £75 family of two adults and up to three children. Other benefits include 10 per cent off Belvoir Estate Stays; free parking for one vehicle in the main car park and 10 per cent off purchases at Vale View cafe.

Lady Alice Manners: “The whole ethos of this playground is inclusivity. Everything is built so that parents and grandparents can join their children in play. We have worked around the natural topography of the woodland to create a non-invasive structure which we hope will feed everyone’s imaginations and I hope that many happy memories are made for families on this wonderful adventure playground.”

Nearby, the estate’s artisan shopping village The Engine Yard is open every day, with free parking available for stays of up to four hours. The Fuel Tank Kitchen has a new children’s menu offering popular staples such as scampi and chips, sausage and mash as well as smoothies, milkshakes and babyccinos.
