Families were left confused and disappointed after turning up to a 'free' Easter egg hunt in a park - where no chocolate treats appeared to have been hidden at all. The event was listed online and invited people to take their children on a hunt for 'more than 100 mini Easter eggs with sweets inside'.
Kylie Sharples was among those who attended. Posting on Facebook afterwards, she wrote: "Anybody know what happened to this? Took the kids today and not one in sight. Lots of kids brought Easter baskets to collect them in. Nobody could find any or anyone who knew anything about it?"
The event had been advertised as a five-hour egg hunt starting at midday in Worden Park, Leyland, Lancashire, LancsLive reports. The event description stated: "This is completely free to do and is great fun."
Jennifer Dixon, who took her nine-year-old daughter, said: "We went to the park, people were having picnics, kids playing in playpark, they were just all walking round as normal.
"It was just upsetting for my autistic girl who was excited for the Easter hunt. She didn't understand why it didn't happen.
"She came back home in a full meltdown and crying. That night she didn't settle for us at all."
Another parent, Patricia Cocklin, said: "It was a shameful scam. What pleasure they got out of destroying children’s dreams is beyond my imagination.
"What have they got in store for Christmas? They have no conscience."
The event organiser has been approached for comment by LancsLive.
