Children were among a desperate group of people smuggled into the country by a wicked gang and left at the side of the road.
Nine migrants, including five children, were dumped in a lay by in Skelmersdale, starving, dehydrated and begging for help in September 2017. They had been illegally brought into the country in a Polish lorry, as part of an elaborate smuggling ring.
Five men have now been jailed for a total of almost 24 years for running a large-scale people smuggling ring bringing Kurdish migrants into the UK hidden in the back of lorries. Manchester Crown Court heard how Tarik Namik, aged 45 and from Oldham, headed up the organised crime group who became subject of a National Crime Agency investigation in 2017.
