Plans for a new nursery class at a Barrhead school have been given the go-ahead.
East Renfrewshire Council announced its intention to increase childcare options at St John’s Primary School earlier this year.
The class, which will initially provide 60 places for two, three and four-year-olds, increasing to 90 once it is fully established, is expected to open in early 2024.

Council planners approved the project last month, granting permission for changes to an existing extension, previously used as offices and storages, so it can be used as a nursery.
Plans revealed a front car park will now be used as a playground while a rear car park will be extended. No car parking spaces will be lost and timber fencing will be erected around the new playground.
When the project was announced in April, the council said residents would be able to apply for a place at the nursery as part of the council’s early learning and childcare application process.
Cllr Andrew Anderson, Labour, the council’s education convener, said: “We are committed to providing early learning and childcare provision which meets the needs of our communities.
“In Barrhead and Neilston, we’ve recognised the need to increase the options available to families and this new nursery class at St John’s Primary School will do just that.
“With new house building in the area and legislative changes regarding deferred entry to school which come into effect in August 2023, creating this new facility will future-proof the availability of nursery places in the area.”
