Police are working to identify the driver of a silver Jeep-style vehicle who sped off after knocking down a child outside a high school.
The child, understood to be a boy, was struck by the vehicle sometime around 3.45pm on the service road immediately outside Carluke High School on Tuesday March 1st.
But the driver of the off-roader failed to stop after striking the youngster, and is yet to be traced.
Eyewitnesses said the child appeared to be in shock following the collision and had attempted to board a bus home.
He was seen being comforted by teachers immediately afterwards outside the school's main entrance before being taken to hospital.
He is not believed to have incurred any serious physical injuries.
However, Police Scotland is now working to identify the vehicle and its owner.
Officers are thought to be reviewing CCTV from the school, the adjacent leisure centre and from buses that were shuttling kids home at the peak of the school run.
A force spokesperson said: "Around 5.20pm on Tuesday, 1 March, police received a report of a child being knocked down by a silver jeep at Carluke High School, Carluke.
“The silver jeep failed to stop and the child was taken to Wishaw Hospital with minor injuries.
“Enquiries are ongoing to trace the driver.”
South Lanarkshire Council, which operates Carluke High School, was contacted for comment.
