Health officials are currently investigating an increased number of hepatitis cases among children in the UK. Since the beginning of 2022, 1 11 youngsters have reportedly required hospital treatment for liver inflammation (hepatitis ).
The majority of cases are allegedly occurring in children under the age of five, with ten young patients needing a liver transplant as a result.
One theory, according to a briefing by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), is that cases may have been fuelled by a common virus called the adenovirus – and a lack of exposure to it during the coronavirus pandemic.
