Child dies of hepatitis as 114 cases of mysterious strain found in UK

One child has died due to acute hepatitis following an increase of infections found in 12 countries, the World Health Organisation (WHO) has confirmed.

At least 169 cases have been reported in children and many of the infections - 114 so far - are in the UK.

The agency issued the figures as health authorities around the world investigate a mysterious increase in severe cases of hepatitis - inflammation of the liver - in young children.
