Chihuahuas tie the knot in wedding with eight-tier cake and 90 dog guests

Two chihuahuas have been wed in a garden ceremony surrounded by their owners and more than 90 other dogs.

Chester, aged eight, tied the knot with Izzy, aged one, at a ceremony in Runcorn, Cheshire - and they even exchanged specially written vows, rings and sausages.

They promised to "always play together; to care for their puppies, be their one or one-hundred-and-one; to share their favourite toys; to protect their houses from the evil postman and to only sniff each other's bums from now until forever".

The dogs were held by their owners, 'mother of the bride' Stephanie Rice and 'mother of the groom' Mandy Willow, who helped them cut their eight-tier, dog-friendly cake before placing them into a pram and whisking them away, reports CheshireLive.

Mandy said: "Chester fell deeply in love with Izzy from the local walks that we do. Chester goes absolutely mad for her, screaming for her and meets her at the car."

Greyhound Stan took on the role as vicar with help from his owner Rebecca Knapper, 42, from St. Helens.

She said: "I've never done a dog wedding before. I want to do this all the time now. I spent a fortnight getting in as many dog puns as I could."

The ceremony was attended by members of the Chihuahuas of Halton and North West, a walking group for chihuahuas and other miniature breeds, and was in aid of local Runcorn charity Cheshire Sighthound Rescue and their lurcher Felix, who has made a miraculous recovery since being hit by a car travelling at 50mph.

Izzy's owner Stephanie, who came up with the idea, said: "A lot of the money we're raising for the sighthound charity. We've done a lot of themed events raising money: We've done RSPCA, the Manchester and Cheshire dogs home."

Mandy added: "We do different events. At Christmas we did 'Santa Paws', we did our own version of Crufts which was 'Chi-rufts'; we're doing one in August which is a festival, but instead of Creamfields it's going to be 'Chi-fields'. So, we do different things and each time it's going to be for a different dog charity."

Sally, a Wirral native who now lives in Amsterdam, delayed her flight back to Holland in order to attend the event.

"It's the wedding of the year," she said. "They're a beautiful couple and I thought it was really emotional when they shared that sausage."
