Chiefs WR Marquise Brown could miss Week 1 vs. Ravens with sternoclavicular dislocation

The Kansas City Chiefs addressed the wide receiver position by adding new faces this offseason, including former Baltimore Ravens’ first-round pick Marquise “Hollywood” Brown, whom the Chiefs signed to a one-year, $7 million contract in March. The speedy receiver is a significant upgrade to a wide receiver core that struggled for much of last season for the Super Bowl champions.

Brown, 27, suffered a sternoclavicular dislocation against the Jacksonville Jaguars in the team’s first preseason game, meaning he may not have the chance to face his original team in Week 1 when the Ravens travel to Kansas City for the season opener. The injury occurred on the game’s first snap when Brown was tackled awkwardly following an 11-yard reception. Brown was hospitalized following the injury but has since been released.

The Chiefs could turn to first-round rookie Xavier Worthy in Brown’s absence. Worthy broke the 40-yard dash record at the NFL Combine with 4.21 seconds. Kansas City also has talented second-year receiver Rashee Rice, but he faces a possible suspension following a multi-car crash this offseason.

In his three seasons with the Ravens, Brown caught 195 passes for 2,361 yards and 21 touchdowns. Following a trade request, Brown was sent to the Arizona Cardinals, where he spent the last two seasons. Brown caught 118 passes for 1,283 yards and seven touchdowns during his time with the Cardinals. Brown had only crossed 1,000 receiving yards in a season once when he finished with 1,008 yards in his last season with Baltimore in 2021.
