The Kansas City Chiefs produced the best highlight of the NFL’s preseason on Saturday when Patrick Mahomes completed a behind-the-back pass to Travis Kelce against the Detroit Lions.
The play came late in the first quarter on a third down that seemed innocuous when Mahomes snapped the ball. After showing play action on a fake run to rookie Carson Steele, Mahomes rolled to his right and unleashed the spectacular trick pass, which was caught by Kelce for a first down.
Check out this video of Mahomes’ outstanding behind-the-back pass to Kelce, which was posted to Twitter by the NFL’s official account:

It is no secret that Mahomes has been training to make behind-the-back passes during training camp, but this play was the first time he has ever attempted the feat in a live game.
Expect to see him to continue honing this unique skill through the rest of Kansas City’s preseason.
