Chiefs safety Justin Reid was pumped up during Saturday’s preseason game against the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field.
But it wasn’t because he had intercepted a pass or made a key tackle.
No, Reid was thrilled about making an extra point following the Chiefs’ second touchdown.
In a sideline interview with Chiefs reporter Matt McMullen, Reid said he was so excited at the chance to kick that he probably was the first one set up for the attempt among his teammates.
Reid, who made a 65-yard field goal at practice last week off a tee, knew he’d get a shot to try an extra point on Saturday after talking with his coaches.
“They let me know we had some pregame kicks before the game started,” Reid told McMullen. “They said if you look good there, then throughout the game at some point they’re gonna let me have a shot at it. So the opportunity came and I made the most of it.”
Reid sure did. He crushed this kick after looking good in attempts before the game.
Reid was greeted by Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker after making the extra point and their teammates were pretty excited, too. Ditto for Reid.
“That backup kicker position,” Reid joked, “is locked down.”
