The Kansas City Chiefs have lost their first free agent of the 2023 NFL free agency period.
According to NFL reporter Ari Meirov, Chiefs RT Andrew Wylie is set to sign a three-year deal worth up to $24 million with the Washington Commanders. He’ll be reunited with Eric Bieniemy who became the assistant head coach and offensive coordinator in Washington this season.
Wylie was the definition of a homegrown player for Kansas City, working his way up the roster after joining the team late in the 2017 NFL season. He started games at left guard and right guard, but most recently started 20 games at right tackle for the Chiefs in 2022. He’s started 59 career games over the past five seasons in Kansas City, doing everything that the team asked of him along the way.

The undrafted free agent out of Eastern Michigan certainly earned the payday after posting a shutout again Philadelphia Eagles edge rusher Haason Reddick in Super Bowl LVII. It was a moment of redemption for him after playing on the offensive line that lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Super Bowl LV.
As of right now, the Chiefs now have vacancies they need to address at both the left and right tackle position. Orlando Brown Jr., perhaps surprisingly, is still available on the free agent market.
