Chiefs re-sign WR Jerrion Ealy to practice squad, cut DE Daniel Wise

The Kansas City Chiefs have continued their shuffling of the practice squad as they opened the practice week on Tuesday. This time, they’re bringing back a player who was suspended by the NFL and has been released from the practice squad twice already this season.

WR Jerrion Ealy is back with the team after his second release just last week to make room for DT Phil Hoskins on the practice squad. He was previously released in December, but he recently re-signed after WR Cornell Powell landed on the practice squad-injured list.

This latest re-signing comes after news that WR Mecole Hardman would not be practicing on Tuesday. Ealy’s presence could suggest that they don’t expect Hardman to return this season.

An undrafted free agent out of Ole Miss, Ealy has been a developmental player for the team with upside on special teams. He’s worked with both the running backs and receivers in Kansas City and has the flexibility to play both positions, but it’s worth noting that he’s only listed as a receiver now on the team’s website. In 2021, Ealy played 12 games for the Rebels, recording 133 carries, 768 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns. He added 32 receptions, 218 receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns.

In a corresponding move, the Chiefs released former Kansas DE Daniel Wise from the practice squad. Wise was signed in the first week of January after the team released WR Bryan Edwards from the practice squad. Keep an eye out over the next few days as Wise could return to the team on a reserve/future deal.
