Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes shares thoughts on Aaron Rodgers’ season-ending injury

The unfortunate injury of New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers shook the sports world on Monday night as he was lost for the season after only four plays. The Achilles tear could mark the end of the aging legend’s football career as he faces a long uphill battle in rehab.

The situation hit Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes hard, considering the two were expected to face off for the first time this season finally. In each of their two previously scheduled matchups, one was out due to injury or illness, and with Rodgers being ruled out for the year, it seems unlikely they will meet on the football field. The reigning NFL MVP shared his thoughts with reporters Wednesday on Rodgers’ injury and what he’s meant for the league throughout his Hall of Fame-worthy career.

“I mean I have no idea. Obviously, it sucks for not only him and his team but for the entire league because he is such a great player.” said Mahomes, “Someone a lot of guys have looked up to throughout their entire career. You want to play the teams at their best, but that’s a long way down the road and I’m just praying for him that he’s able to heal himself, rehab and hopefully back again next year and maybe we get the opportunity then.”

After needing to add an essential comma to his post on social media, Mahomes initially shared his devastation following the injury in real time on Monday. The future is uncertain for Rodgers, but the two have battled on the golf course in recent years, so they can build their rivalry on that green as the sports world hopes for the best.
