Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes reveals his strategy for handling press conferences

The responsibilities of an NFL starting quarterback stretch well beyond the work done on the field. Leadership and poise are essential qualities that Kansas City Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes has become known for in his career.

During a recent appearance on the ‘Riggles Picks Podcast’ hosted by comedian Rob Riggle, Mahomes explained his handling of media press conference questions.

“It’s part of the profession. It’s part of being a quarterback and having to stay on that podium and talk win or loss. And yeah, I think what I’ve done and mastered is being able to say a lot of words without saying anything at all.” said Mahomes. “That’s my go-to whenever I get a question I might necessarily like; I’ll just say a lot of different words, but it really means nothing.”

Riggle followed Mahomes’ explanation with a live demonstration of his press conference responses. Acting like a reporter, he asked the reigning Super Bowl MVP about his thoughts on a recent game.

“Yeah. I mean, it’s always great to get out there and do whatever you can to try to find a way to get a win, but at the same time, it’s not always going to go your way,” said Mahomes. “And so for us, it’s about going back to the drawing board, putting in the work, and then seeing what we can do next week.”

The fun exchange of how Mahomes handles the media is entertaining but helpful in maintaining the focus on the team’s goal. He does his best to downplay his comments and avoid becoming a distraction.
