Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is primarily viewed as the greatest quarterback in franchise history, surpassing Hall of Famer and football legend Len Dawson.
As the season gets underway, Mahomes is approaching Dawson’s franchise record for career yards with more milestones on the horizon. He spoke with reporters after Sunday’s practice about Dawson’s impact and the honor of getting to know the late legend while in Kansas City.
“He pioneered the game to show how the quarterback could really go out there and dictate how you play the position and how you play on the offensive side of the ball,” said Mahomes. “And then getting to meet Len and how good of a person he was, it truly is remarkable to go out there and have a chance to break some of his records. Because, I mean, the fact that he’s able to put those yards up and that that record sustained for so long speaks to the player and the person that he is.”
Mahomes currently has 28,424 career passing yards, with Dawson atop the franchise record books with 28,507.
