The Kansas City Chiefs officially have a new offensive coordinator.
In an expected move, the Chiefs have promoted senior assistant and QB coach Matt Nagy to offensive coordinator to replace Eric Bieniemy, who is the new assistant head coach and offensive coordinator with the Washington Commanders. This marks Nagy’s second stint as offensive coordinator in Kansas City. He spent five seasons as the Chiefs’ quarterbacks coach from 2013-15, was the co-offensive coordinator with Brad Childress in 2016 and was the sole offensive coordinator during Alex Smith’s best season back in 2017.
Nagy returned to Kansas City in 2022 after a stretch as the Chicago Bears’ head coach for four seasons from 2018 to 2021.

Of course, Nagy played QB in the NFL under Andy Reid in Philadelphia, which led to his first coaching opportunity with Reid and the Eagles back in 2009. He remains well respected among the Chiefs’ coaching staff and Patrick Mahomes is a big fan of the work he does, so this transition should be rather easy for Kansas City.
The Chiefs now have a decision to make at the QB coach position vacated by Nagy, which should provide some intrigue in the coming weeks. A name recently floated for the team is former Texans OC Pep Hamilton.
