Not content to be the biggest story in music in 2023, musician Taylor Swift has spent the year gradually becoming one of the biggest stories in sports as well.
In May, Swift made headlines by revealing she is a Philadelphia Eagles fan during a concert in Philadelphia. Months later, she started dating Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, with her frequent attendance at their games conferring new celebrity on the reigning world champions.
The entire endeavor has rendered Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes—suddenly not even the most famous player on his team—a bit of an afterthought. However, Mahomes indicated Friday morning that he and Kansas City are undeterred by Swift's presence in their orbit.

“At first, I felt like everybody kind of stayed away [from the subject], and just let [Kelce] do what he was doing,” Mahomes told CBS host and former NFL wide receiver Nate Burleson. “And then he started bringing Taylor around, and we realized how cool a person she was, and she is.”
Now, according to Mahomes, Swift has been fully indoctrinated into Chiefs fandom.
“There were a couple jokes here and there at the beginning,” Mahomes said. “Now, she’s just part of Chiefs Kingdom now. She’s part of the team. It’s cool that she’s embraced Brittany [Mahomes, Patrick’s wife], and they’ve built a friendship as well.”
