Chiefs first round picks assigned jersey numbers

The first-round draft picks for the Chiefs have officially touched down in Kansas City.

After being selected in the first round of the 2022 NFL draft, Trent McDuffie and George Karlaftis headed to their new home to get acquainted with their new team. Upon arrival, the two realized that they had more similarities than just being drafted by the Chiefs.

Beyond the funny moment when they landed in K.C., the two got a chance to tour team facilities, as neither took a top-30 visit with the team. They also were assigned their new jersey numbers with the Chiefs.

McDuffie will be wearing No. 21 and Karlaftis will be wearing No. 56.

No. 21 was most recently worn by Mike Hughes, who signed with the Detroit Lions as a free agent. McDuffie wore the No. 21 in high school. He, of course, was assigned the No. 22 in college, which was worn by his late brother. That number is currently being worn by Juan Thornhill in Kansas City.

No. 56 was most recently worn by Ben Niemann, but before that, it was worn by Chiefs legend Derrick Johnson. Karlaftis wore No. 5 at Purdue and he wore No. 88 at West Lafayette High School in Indiana.
