Chiefs DT Chris Jones says Charles Omenihu is excited to be back with the team

The talk of the NFL after six weeks has been the dominance of the Kansas City Chiefs’ defense. The growth of all the young players drafted by General Manager Brett Veach has been showcased during the five-game winning streak.

Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones has maintained his All-Pro play while witnessing his younger teammates blossom in the system orchestrated by coordinator Steve Spagnuolo. The defense has played exceptionally well but will get a familiar face back in the lineup this week. Jones spoke about the impact of Charles Omenihu’s return during Wednesday’s press conference.

“[It] should be a lot of fun,” Jones explained. “I think you can never have enough pass rushers; I think he’s a guy who brings a lot of versatility to our room, to our team, especially. [I am] thankful he’s back, ready to insert him in and utilize his ability, especially on pass rush downs.”

Omenihu served a six-game suspension after being arrested for domestic violence in January while still a member of the San Francisco 49ers.

“He’s super excited. We just got to make sure he knows the plays and all the checks and everything.” said Jones, “But we’re excited to get him back. He’s excited to be back. And we’re ready to add that addition to the defensive line.”

Kansas City has the No. 2 scoring defense in the league in six games at 14.7 points per game. The Chiefs are the only team to hold opponents under 22 total points in every game.
