Chiefs, Chris Jones Agree To Contract Extension

Chris Jones’s holdout from the Chiefs is set to end this week after the two sides reportedly agreed to a new one-year deal, according to SI’s Albert Breer

Jones, who still had one year left on his deal, did not tack on any new years to his deal. Instead, the 29-year-old will receive various incentives which will enable him to earn “considerably more money” in 2023, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Jones had a base salary of $19.5 million for this season under his previous deal and was due to his unrestricted free agency in ‘24.

Via Breer, GM Brett Veach issued a statement on Jones’s new deal, indicating it was a “priority” to keep him in Kansas City.

Jones was not with the team during the offseason as he worked out on his own while holding out for his new contract.

The star defensive tackle was unavailable during Kansas City’s season-opening defeat against the Lions on Thursday, but Adam Teicher of ESPN indicates that Jones is expected to suit up in Week 2 against the Jaguars

Despite not playing in Week 1, the defensive tackle was seen in attendance at Arrowhead Stadium, watching the game in a suite.

Last season, Jones was named to the All-Pro First Team and earned his fourth consecutive Pro Bowl nod. He recorded a 15.5 sacks, 44 tackles, and 29 QB hits, all of which were career highs.
