The league has officially announced compensatory draft picks for the 2024 NFL draft.
The Kansas City Chiefs are again gaining a compensatory pick for the upcoming NFL Draft. The NFL has named the Chiefs one of the 14 franchises to receive a selection this year after rewarding three in the 2023 NFL Draft. Kansas City’s listed pick is in the fifth round, 172nd overall, and it has been the 31st compensatory pick in the team’s history since 1994.
Under the rules for compensatory draft selections, the NFL states that a team losing more or better compensatory free agents (“CFA”) than it acquired in the previous year is eligible to receive compensatory draft picks. The compensatory picks are positioned within the third through seventh rounds based on the value of the compensatory free agents lost.
The Chiefs lost free agents from the 2023 season that affected this year’s compensation were offensive tackle Orlando Brown, wide receiver Mecole Hardman, defensive tackle Khalen Saunders, wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster, safety Juan Thornhill, and offensive lineman Andrew Wylie.
The additions of safety Mike Edwards, defensive end Charles Omenihu, offensive tackle Jawaan Taylor, linebacker Drue Tranquill, and the reacquisition of Hardman were compensable free agents gained by the Chiefs.

Kansas City now has a total of seven draft picks for Brett Veach and his team to work with in the 2024 NFL draft.
