A chief minister has defended her nomination of a former cattlemen's association president as the next territory administrator after his questionable social media posts surfaced.

David Connolly is set to be sworn in next month as the Northern Territory's 24th administrator after being nominated by the Country Liberal Party government of Chief Minister Lia Finocchiaro.
