A number of supermarkets have been ordered to stop selling a number of items in the last two weeks - as the Food Safety Authority of Ireland intervene to prevent members of the public from getting sick.
Food alerts are notifications issued by the FSAI to official agencies and food businesses or other businesses relating to an identified hazard i.e. a biological, chemical or physical agent in, or condition of, food/food contact materials with the potential to cause an adverse health effect.
Where there is a need for action to be taken, or to convey the information to a wider enforcement and food business community, the FSAI will issue a national Food Alert on the FSAI website
In the past 14 days, three alerts have been issued.
They were for:
Dunnes Chicken Fillets
Dunnes Stores recalled an additional batch of its 4 Ready to Cook Southern Fried Chicken Fillets due to the presence of Salmonella earlier this month
Point-of-sale recall notices will be displayed in stores supplied with the implicated batches.
The best before date on the pack was 08 Mar 2024.
People infected with Salmonella typically develop symptoms between 12 and 36 hours after infection, but this can range between 6 and 72 hours. The most common symptom is diarrhoea, which can sometimes be bloody.
Glenhaven Chicken Fillets
A batch of Glenhaven 4 Breaded Chicken Fillets was also recalled due to the presence of Salmonella.
The implicated batches are: 22158B; Best before: Dec 2023
Beer
Hazelnut was detected in a batch of To Øl X Omnipollo Brewtrance beer, which is not declared on the label.
The affected products are from batch number 24F281B, with the best before date of 08/10/2031.
This may make the affected batch unsafe for consumers who are allergic to or intolerant of nuts (hazelnuts).
