CHICAGO — For three weeks this fall, business owners in some of Chicago's hardest-hit immigrant neighborhoods will get to attach a dollar figure to a year that's mostly been described in feelings: dread, quiet, blocks that used to hum with foot traffic.
The Illinois Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (IHCC) Foundation will begin accepting applications Aug. 24 for 52 grants of $5,000 apiece, earmarked for small businesses that took a financial hit from federal immigration enforcement. The window closes Sept. 14, and the chamber plans to notify winners Oct. 1.
