Chicago shooting: Woman shares her horrific injury after being grazed by bullet

A young victim of the July 4th gun rampage has shared horrifying images of her facial injury showing she was just inches from death.

The woman, known only by her twitter handle Lili, captured her miracle escape in the Chicago attack that left six people dead and dozens more injured.

She was grazed by the bullet and survived the massacre by millimeters after being caught up after the gunman opened fire from a rooftop.

Robert Crimo, 22, is suspected of carrying out the deadly attack and remains in police custody.

Her first photo shows blood pouring down her face and onto her chest.

Then she uploaded a video with a deep laceration, showing just how close she came to death.

Other Twitter photos included her blood-stained clothes as she sat in hospital waiting for urgent medical care.

She wrote in the caption: 'I cant f***ing believe i was in the middle of a mass shooting.

"I've felt safe at this parade for 18 years and today I got hit with a bullet and nothing will change in America this is ridiculous."

The Twitter user posted the photos just hours after the shooting began (twitter.com/h4ndcrushed)

She earlier put: "My aftermath of the Highland Park shooting. I'm still in shock. I am so sorry for everyone who lost loved ones."

This morning, she returned and posted: "I want to thank everyone who's interacting with and sharing my post , I didnt post for attention to myself, I wanted to share the reality of what is happening to so many people, and help people realize that things NEED to change."

Struggling Lili said in another tweet on the social media platform that she has a therapy session booked with a trauma specialist.

Two of the people killed in the attack have been named.

Grandfather Nicholas Toledo and a local synagogue employee Jacki Sundheim died in Monday's devastating shooting.

More than 36 people were injured, mostly with gunshot wounds.

The annual procession in wealthy Highland Park was stopped just minutes after it started at 10am local time, with hundreds of attendees running for safety as chaos broke out.

Parade-goers left behind chairs, prams, bicycles and blankets as they fled the event route on Central Street in the city's downtown area.

Footage shows the moment where Crimo was arrested with his Honda surrounded by a large number of police vehicles on the junction between Highway 41 and Westleigh Avenue.

"He is considered armed and dangerous," sheriff's department spokesperson Christopher Covelli earlier told journalists, as the hunt got underway for the man.

Mayor Nancy Rotering told a news conference: "Our community was terrorised by an act of violence that has shaken us to our core. On a day when we came together to celebrate community and freedom, we are instead mourning the tragic loss of life."

One witness claimed to have heard more than 20 shots being fired.
