Chicago Bulls ace Nikola Vucevic ejected after hitting LeBron James in crucial blunder

NBA star Nikola Vucevic was ejected from the game against the Los Angeles Lakers after accidentally hitting LeBron James in the face.

On his return from injury, the James attempted to drive into the paint for a layup before Vucevic outstretched and hit James with his arm. The center was given a technical from one referee before they discussed and made it a double-tech - seeing him ejected from the game.

It's a penalty which could cost huge for the Bulls, with Vucevic in the midst of a strong season and being a key player for the team, while also greatly boosting the Lakers chances.

The Bulls themselves were in need of a win as they looked to get into the playoffs in the eastern conference - and did well to survive without Vucevic.

However, many fans feel the decision was a harsh one. One said: "Why has he been ejected for that? He's trying to block the shot," another said: "That's just ridiculous. The league's going soft."

Since James' injury, the Lakers have been in excellent form, winning seven of their last 10 outings.

Missing the playoffs for the second successive season would be a poor outcome for the Lakers, and especially on James’ legacy, something the team are keen to avoid.

In February, the Lakers made a number of trades to strengthen their roster - bringing in D'Angelo Russell, Malik Beasley, Rui Hachimura and Jarred Vanderbilt, all have played starting roles at times and improved the team.

But now getting James back, they'll be in a much stronger position moving forward - and in a good spot to make the playoffs, even after their defeat to the Bulls on Sunday.

James came off the bench for the Lakers on Sunday, and is expected to be on a minutes count for the next few games as he's eased back into the starting lineup ahead of the last few games of the season.
