Chicago Bulls College Prep students sent home after chemical irritant used during large fight

(Ashlee Rezin/Sun-Times)

Two people were injured after a chemical irritant was used during a large fight Friday afternoon at Chicago Bulls College Prep on the Near West Side, pushing administrators to cancel classes for the rest of the day.

Emergency crews were called to the school in the 2000 block of West Adams Street just after 12 p.m., according to the Chicago Fire Department, which sent five ambulances to the school.

A woman had entered the school and discharged the irritant inside a classroom, according to Chicago police. Police sources say the woman may be a parent or guardian of a student at the school.

Two staff members were transported to hospitals in good to fair condition, fire officials said. Four people refused medical treatment.

Students were released for the day, fire officials said.

The woman was taken into custody and charges were pending, according to police.
