A Chicago-based artist has arrived in Kentucky and – with a little help from the people of Frankfort – will paint a new mural on the VFW post downtown. Mauricio Ramirez was one of 65 artists who answered the national call and was the winner of a juried selection process. He said the painting will be very creative and very colorful.
“I like to create murals that are very loud, they're very proud. And they like to tell the stories of local histories. And for this one, in particular, we're telling the story of the VFW, and some very notable individuals.”
The citizens of Frankfort are invited to help Ramirez paint the mural at the VFW, whose members helped select him.
“When I create murals that are easily accessible to the public, you know, I kind of want to share ownership of the mural. It's not just me coming in out of town and doing my thing and leaving.”
Community Paint Day will take place Wednesday from noon to 4 p.m. at the VFW on Second Street in Frankfort. Ramirez said his citizen assistants will get a bit of training first.
