C.A.P Studio, the landmark printmaking hub of northern Thailand, has recently moved back to the Nimmanhaemin neighbourhood of Chiang Mai, where they welcome artists and visitors with a fully renovated, customised creative space.
Chiang Mai Art On Paper, its full name, was founded in 2003 by Thai artist and master printmaker Kitikong Tilokwattanotai. The studio produces limited edition, hand-made prints in collaboration with Thai and international artists and has for many years contributed to Chiang Mai's reputation as a contemporary art destination and a printmaking hub.
Unlike a commercial print shop, the studio operates as a creative partnership platform, where artists work jointly with its technical team. The studio specialises in hand-pulled, fine art prints and typically produces small-run, limited editions. It provides artists with expertise, materials and production support, and all editions are shared between artists and the studio.
C.A.P Studio started in a small condo behind Chiang Mai University and then moved to a larger space in Nimmanhaemin area. In 2021, the studio made the decision to expand and elevate the overall quality of production through a full building renovation and so took temporary residence in Chiang Mai's old town area.
After the completion of the large-scale renovations on the original Nimmanhaemin location, C.A.P Studio is fully operational in its beautiful space and has closed the temporary location in the old city.
The Nimmanhaemin building has been carefully reconfigured to better support and promote printmaking as an art form and to best realise the studio's long-standing aim of fostering collaborative relationships between artists and printmakers.
As part of being a "living lab", the studio welcomes visitors to observe the printmaking process and engage with artists and technicians. Interested visitors can also view and collect works produced by the studio.
C.A.P Studio is on Nimmanhaemin 17 and opens Tuesday to Saturday from 10.30am to 6pm.
