RAIPUR: Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju inaugurate a new office premises of Income-Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT), Raipur Bench at the Central Secretariat Building at Naya Raipur on June 4.
Union minister of state for law and justice Prof. S P Singh Baghel at Raipur Member of Parliament Sunil Soni will also attend the function.
President of ITAT G.S Pannu told TOI that earlier the people had to go to Nagpur and Jabalpur zone to appeal at the Tribunal. Later a bench was created at Raipur in 2013 having the Jurisdiction over the entire state of Chhattisgarh.
A division bench consisting of one Judicial Member Ravish Sood and one Accountant member G.D. Padmshali is posted in the capital city.
The administrative control of Raipur bench will be under Pune Zonal Vice-President, R.S. Syal.
Throwing light about the ITAT, he said the quasi-judicial institution set up in 1941 and specializes in dealing with appeals under the Direct Tax Acts. The number of Benches has increased progressively and presently ITAT has 63 Benches at 30 different stations, including two circuit benches, covering almost all the cities having a seat of the High Court.
Started in 1941 with six Members constituting three Benches - one each at Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai, ITAT draws inspiration from its motto 'Nishpaksh Sulabh Satvar Nyay', which means impartial, easy and speedy justice.
The new office premises of the ITAT at Raipur has all the required facilities such as spacious court rooms which can accommodate 40 persons.
