RAIPUR: Four Maoists, including a woman cadre, were killed in another fierce encounter between Maoists and security personnel of Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district and Greyhounds of Telangana on Tuesday.
The deceased Maoists were among the senior cadres of the banned outfit and bodies of three were recovered, police said.
One jawan from Greyhounds sustained injuries and was airlifted to a hospital in Warangal.
The encounter took place on bordering forests of Bijapur district in Perur, Ilmidi and Usoor hilly regions where 40-50 Maoists were present including Telangana state committee’s senior Maoist commander Sudhakar- divisional committee member, area committee member Venkatapuram.
Bastar range inspector general of police P Sundarraj said that the Maoists were all armed with weapons during their meeting. Security personnel of Telangana Greyhounds, Central Reserve Police Force and District Reserve Guards from Bijapur left the camps on Monday night to round them up.
“Around 7 am on Tuesday when the troops reached forests bordering Ilmidi in village Semladodi and Telangana’s Perur regions, an encounter broke out between Maoists and security personnel. Within few minutes, Maoists retreated into forests as they had lost four of their colleagues to bullets,” IG said.
During the search, bodies of one woman cadre and four other Maoists were recovered.
IG said that the search was intensified and detailed description and identification of those killed was being retrieved.
Security forces have also recovered two rifled from the spot of encounter.
