Cheryl has penned a very moving tribute to The Queen, with a post referencing Her Majesty's relationship with husband Prince Philip.
News came in at just after 6.30pm that Queen Elizabeth II had died at Balmoral a few hours earlier, at the age of 96, as several senior members of the Royal Family headed to Scotland to be with her. Buckingham Palace announced the death of Her Majesty in a statement which read: 'The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon. The King and Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral and return to London in the morning."
Tributes swiftly flooded in from across the world, with North East celebrities like Alan Shearer and Ant and Dec among the many to pay their respects. And now Girls Aloud star and Fight For This Love singer Cheryl has honoured The Queen with a touching post on Instagram.
On lunchtime on Friday, the Geordie star shared a photo of Her Majesty in her early days as Queen, next to a rainbow over London as the coun try comes to terms with her passing. Next to the images, Cheryl wrote: "May you spread your wings and fly into the loving arms of your awaiting Prince .. thank you for your service. Rest peacefully."
As well as performing at the Royal Variety Performance on various occasions with her Girls Aloud bandmates and in a solo capacity, Cheryl also worked closely with the new monarch, King Charles III, in her projects with The Prince's Trust, including the setting up of her own charity, Cheryl's Trust.
The Trust penned it's own Centre in Newcastle in 2018 and Cheryl and Charles, then the Prince of Wales, paid a visit to the venture in November 2021.
