There has been a call for new bike storage facilities at a popular South Belfast playing field.
Lisnasharragh SDLP councillor Séamas de Faoite has said that over the past council term there have been a lot of positive changes at the Cherryvale Playing Fields off the Ravenhill Road, but more could be done to encourage people to go there.
He has said that the installation of sheltered bike parking facilities would be a big boost to the area and further encourage people to use the playing fields.

The councillor said that the area has one of the highest rates of people using bicycles for journeys and improving infrastructure would help cyclists and promote the use of active travel for others.
He said: “We’ve secured so many positive changes for Cherryvale in this Council term; with the completion of new pitches, the crossing on the Ravenhill Road, repaired catch nets, new benches and work commencing shortly on the Knockbreda Road crossing which will facilitate the opening of the pedestrian entrance gate there.
“However, more is still needed to promote active travel in the area, so I am campaigning for sheltered cycle parking to facilitate cyclists using Cherryvale to its best potential.
“Belfast City Council in partnership with the Department of Infrastructure is already investing in sheltered cycle parking throughout the city. With one of the highest rates of journey by bicycle in Belfast, our area needs the infrastructure to match local cyclists’ ambitions.”
