Cher’s mother, Georgia Holt, dies at age 96

Cher’s mother died over the weekend. Georgia Holt was 96.

“Mom is gone,” the 76-year-old singer tweeted at 12:02 a.m. on Sunday, followed by a sad-faced emoji.

Condolences poured in from Hillary Clinton and many others.

“So sorry for your loss, my friend. Sending you all the (love) in the world,” the former secretary of state tweeted, including a heart emoji.

Actress Marg Helgenberger echoed the sentiment.

“Oh Cher, I’m so very sorry to hear that your beloved mother has passed,” she tweeted. “My heart goes out to you. What a blessing to have had her in your life for as long as you did. May she rest in peace.”

Television personality Andy Cohen sent six heart emojis, while CNN anchor Don Lemon shared a broken heart emoji and hands in prayer.

Holt, born in 1926 in Arkansas, started performing as a child and later moved to Los Angeles, where she worked as a singer, actor and model in addition to mothering her famous offspring.

Her roles included guest appearances on “The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet,” “I Love Lucy” and “Jane Wyman Presents the Fireside Theater.” She also appeared in a handful of films.

In 2013, Holt released a country album, “Honky Tonk Woman,” which she had recorded in the 1980s. That was also the year Lifetime aired a one-hour special, “Dear Mom, Love Cher,” in which Holt was profiled by her relatives, including her famous daughter.

Cher intimated her mother’s ill health back in September, tweeting, “Sorry I’ve Been Mia. Mom’s Been Sick Off & On. She Just Got Out Of Hosp. She Had Pneumonia. She’s Getting Better.”

A cause of death was not given, and it was not clear whether Holt had been out of the hospital when she died.

Married and divorced six times, Holt had been partnered with Craig Spencer since 1976. He survives her, as does Cher’s sister, Georganne LaPiere, and grandchildren Chaz Bono and P. Exeter Blue I, according to Variety.
