CHENNAI: A heavy traffic congestion was reported in Kamarajar Salai in Chennai after the commuters picked up an argument with the cops for blocking the vehicles and detouring them on Thursday.
The traffic cops had on Wednesday issued a statement about the traffic diversion from 4am to 9am to facilitate the photo and video shoot of the Chess Olympiad event.
However, with the road users being unhappy about the diversions, traffic piled up in Kamarajar Salai, Anna Salai near Island Grounds and Rajaji Salai as the shooting extended even after 9am.
While many commuters picked up arguments with the traffic cops deployed there for diversion and hurled heated abuses on them. The cops blocked the vehicular movement from Napier Bridge to RBI subway.
A team of traffic cops pacified the aggrieved road users and diverted them.
