CHENNAI: A day after she ended 2022 Wimbledon semi-finalist Tatjana Maria's run at the WTA Chennai Open, Argentina's Nadia Podoroska came from a set down to defeat Eugenie Bouchard 1-6, 6-4, 6-2 to book a place in the semifinals. It was an encounter that stretched to two hours and 54 minutes.
Much like her game against Maria on Thursday where she lost the opening set, the 25-year-old from Argentina suffered starting trouble against the 2014 Wimbledon finalist. Eugenie called the shots in the first set by breaking Nadia in the first game. Within the first 10 minutes, Eugenie had raced to a 3-0 lead. The score soon read 4-0 in the Canadian's favour. It was only in the fifth game of the first set that Nadia won her first game. However, Eugenie wrapped up the opening set 6-1 in 38 minutes.
