Chelsea put their midweek Champions League disappointment behind them with a 3-0 win over Wolves in the Premier League. The Blues had been held 2-2 by Qarabag in Azerbaijan, but Enzo Maresca’s side immediately returned to winning ways, beating their managerless opponents. Malo Gusto scored his first ever senior goal as he nodded home Alejandro Garnacho’s clipped ball into the box on 51 minutes, and Willian Estevao had an instant impact off the bench as he burst to the byline to tee up compatriot Joao Pedro on 65 minutes.
The Brazilian notched his second goal in as many games after he scored the winner in the 1-0 win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last weekend. Pedro Neto got in on the act, tapping home against his former club in the 73rd minute after Garnacho showed the visiting defence a clean pair of heels, before having the awareness to pick out his fellow wide man.
Enzo Fernandez was instrumental in the engine room, pulling the strings with some picturesque passing, and he stung the palms of Sam Johnstone in the first half with a fizzing free kick and bouncing half-volley. Liam Delap made his first start since his injury back in August, but he was quiet and was subbed in favour of Estevao. Another three points for the west Londoners as they continue to hunt that consistency that many say their young side lacks. They won’t care about that, however. They’re up to second in the Premier League table.

Dom Smith reports
21:36 , Oli Gent77 mins: Garnacho to Neto to 3-0 and a goal that shows what Chelsea can do when they have space. Park the bus against Chelsea and you might have some luck. Leave gaps to exploit and you'll be punished.
GOAL! Chelsea 3-0 Wolves
21:35 , Oli Gent73 mins: It’s three, and it’s Pedro Neto against his former club. Brilliant wing play from Garnacho, who utilises his pace to devastating effect. The Argentine speeds clear, and slides it across to his fellow wide man, who taps home.
Chelsea 2-0 Wolves
21:31 , Oli Gent70 mins: Matheus Mane and Marshall Munetsi are on for Bellegarde and Hwang.
Dom Smith reports
21:29 , Oli Gent68 mins: And there's why Estevao was coming on. 2-0, Joao Pedro, the goal made by the teenager. Chelsea appear to have got the game won.
GOAL! Chelsea 2-0 Wolves
21:27 , Oli Gent65 mins: It’s there, and it’s Joao Pedro with the second. Estevao is the architect, and it’s consecutive goals for Joao Pedro. The young winger makes the burst to the byline, and cuts it back to the striker to slam home.
Chelsea 1-0 Wolves
21:25 , Oli Gent65 mins: Here comes the Brazilian, and off comes Liam Delap. Pedro Neto has gone up top momentarily...
Chelsea 1-0 Wolves

Chelsea 1-0 Wolves

Chelsea 1-0 Wolves
21:22 , Oli Gent61 mins: Caicedo gets a booking for a tug on Joao Gomes.
Dom Smith reports
21:21 , Oli Gent60 mins: Already, even after he had a breakthrough through Gusto, the game is becoming increasingly stretched. That suits Chelsea more than Wolves, I think, but the Blues must be vigilant of their threat on the break. Gusto is everywhere now that he's scored. Caicedo going into the book is no real surprise - an accumulation of lots of minor fouls.
Chelsea 1-0 Wolves
21:20 , Oli Gent59 mins: Better from Wolves as Bueno gets high and wide down the left and sends a cross into the near post. Strand Larsen attacks it, but Chalobah nips in front of him at the last. The striker is furious with himself!
Chelsea 1-0 Wolves
21:16 , Oli Gent56 mins: It’s been a game of relatively few chances, and none for Wolves. How on earth will the visitors muster an opportunity?
Dom Smith reports
21:15 , Oli Gent53 mins: That is Malo Gusto's very first senior goal - for anyone. And when Enzo Maresca realised he was the scorer, he turned to his coaching staff with a broad smile and said "Malo!"... as surprised as anyone here at Stamford Bridge!
Goal! Chelsea 1-0 Wolves
21:13 , Oli Gent51 mins: There’s the opener, and Malo Gusto has it! His 98th Chelsea appearance, and a first goal for the club. He ghosts into the area, and he nods home from Garnacho’s clip into the box.
Chelsea 0-0 Wolves
21:12 , Oli Gent50 mins: Cole Palmer is pictured on the sidelines here at Stamford Bridge. How the Blues would love him on the field right now.
Chelsea 0-0 Wolves
21:11 , Oli Gent49 mins: A roar from the home support as the hosts show some hunger in the final third. Garnacho’s cross is nicked off the head of Neto by Bueno at the far post. Sustained pressure.
Kick off!
21:07 , Oli Gent46 mins: The second half is underway.
Dom Smith reports
20:51 , Oli GentI could detect a few boos as the half-time whistle went there. Chelsea need to find a fifth and sixth gear here.
HT: Chelsea 0-0 Wolves
20:51 , Oli GentThere’s the interval, and we’re goalless. It’s not for the want of trying, with Chelsea really pushing, but the deadlock remains intact.
Can they break it in the second period?
Chelsea 0-0 Wolves
20:47 , Oli Gent45+1 mins: Four added minutes.
Dom Smith reports
20:46 , Oli Gent44 mins: That's quite a bad miss from Joao Pedro, who has plenty of time at the edge of the box but drags it wide. Frustrating times for Chelsea, who are heading towards the end of a still-goalless first half against the Premier League's bottom side.
Chelsea 0-0 Wolves
20:42 , Oli Gent42 mins: Gusto has returned to the field. Everyone is delighted.
Dom Smith reports
20:40 , Oli Gent41 mins: Josh Acheampong has been sent down to the tunnel to get ready, with Gusto in pain.
Chelsea 0-0 Wolves
20:39 , Oli Gent39 mins: Gusto is down needing some attention after a tangle with Gomes. It’s looking like his ankle.
Chelsea 0-0 Wolves
20:38 , Oli Gent37 mins: 73% possession for Chelsea so far. No shots at all for Wolves. Sounds about right.
Chelsea 0-0 Wolves
20:37 , Oli Gent36 mins: Bellegarde works some room down the right with Cucurella on his tail. He looks for the early cross into Strand Larsen, but, off-balance, he overcooks it.
Chelsea 0-0 Wolves
20:33 , Oli Gent33 mins: ... Fernandez looks to feed it into the box, but it’s cleared by Krejci. Chelsea will come again, however...
Chelsea 0-0 Wolves
20:33 , Oli Gent32 mins: Corner, Wolves. Earned from a simple punt upfield from Johnstone. Bueno delivers, but Sanchez claims and looks to set the hosts off on the counter. Here comes Pedro...
Dom Smith reports
20:32 , Oli Gent31 mins: Bit of a lull in the game over the last 15 minutes or so. Chelsea struggling to break Wolves down, but they must be mindful of the counter-attacking threat at the other end.
Chelsea 0-0 Wolves
20:31 , Oli Gent29 mins: Good try from Garnacho, looking to move onto his right and curl one, but Tchatchoua is doing a good job at staying tight to his man to block his route to goal.
Chelsea 0-0 Wolves
20:27 , Oli Gent26 mins: Again Fernandez is central to everything good about Chelsea. He sends Delap haring after the ball down the left channel, but Bueno comes across to body the striker out of the way... and out of play.
Chelsea 0-0 Wolves
20:24 , Oli Gent23 mins: Off the line! Fernandez’s corner whizzes over Johnstone’s head, and Tchatchoua swipes it away at the last!
Chelsea 0-0 Wolves
20:23 , Oli Gent22 mins: Good save! Fernandez - again - is at the heart of things as his bouncing half-volley is tipped over by Johnstone. Corner, Chelsea.
Chelsea 0-0 Wolves
20:22 , Oli Gent20 mins: The home fans are getting a bit restless. This Chelsea possession is all well and good, but can they do anything with it? Feels like they need to get Fernandez on the ball. That’s where all the creativity is coming from...
Dom Smith reports
20:18 , Oli Gent17 mins: Pretty standard for a Chelsea home match so far, this. Plenty of possession and a number of close shaves but still goalless. Marc Cucurella seeing plenty of the ball as he ventures into midfield from the left.
Chelsea 0-0 Wolves
20:16 , Oli Gent15 mins: Wolves flow forward for the first time with the Chelsea defence stretched, but Strand Larsen gets the ball caught under his feet and the chance goes begging!
Chelsea 0-0 Wolves
20:14 , Oli Gent12 mins: It’s been all Chelsea, but there hasn’t been much urgency as of yet. That’s better from Fernandez, firing a pass into the path of Garnacho, who bursts in behind and gets a cutback into the box, but Johnstone paws it away.
Chelsea 0-0 Wolves
20:10 , Oli Gent9 mins: Chelsea totally dominating the opening exchanges at Stamford Bridge and would deserve their lead if they had one. They don't... yet.
Chelsea 0-0 Wolves
20:09 , Oli Gent7 mins: Close! Cucurella picks it up in a central area after Pedro’s flick-on. The left-back hits it and Fernandez tries to improvise with a header to send it goalwards, but it trickles wide!
Chelsea 0-0 Wolves
20:06 , Oli Gent5 mins: Close! Fernandez has started really well, lifting a lovely ball through the heart of the Wolves defence into Garnacho, but the winger’s finish is tame as Johnstone keeps it out!
Dom Smith reports
20:05 , Oli Gent4 mins: Fine free-kick by Enzo Fernandez, who just tries to catch Same Johnstone out. Well clawed away but Chelsea's first shot on target was dangerous. Positive start from the Blues.
Chelsea 0-0 Wolves
20:05 , Oli Gent3 mins: Free kick, Chelsea. Garnacho is chopped down by Tchatchoua, and Fernandez whips it towards the far post. Johnstone tips it over, with the ball looking like it was going to dip in! Corner.
Chelsea 0-0 Wolves
20:04 , Oli Gent2 mins: Early tactical observations for you. Immediately, you can see Chelsea’s 4-2-3-1 shape, with Joao Pedro tucked in behind Delap, the focal point. Enzo Fernandez has the licence to get up in support of him. As for Wolves, it’s a back five for them, with Krejci in central defence with Toti and Bueno.
Kick off!
20:01 , Oli Gent1 min: We are underway.

Five minutes to team news...
18:40 , Oli GentWho do we think Maresca will pick this evening?
Young Chelsea on consistency hunt amid sea of unpredictability
18:30 , Oli GentChelsea’s 1-0 win at Tottenham last weekend felt like business as usual for the Blues, writes Sam Tabuteau.
Tottenham were particularly insipid against Enzo Maresca’s side last Saturday, but three points have become commonplace for the Blues in this fixture, with this their fifth successive victory over their London rivals.
The west Londoners’ hold over Spurs is remarkable - losing just once in 90 minutes since January 2019 - but under Maresca, they have developed a knack for raising their game against the traditional top-six teams.
However, in games, such as today’s clash at home to 20th-placed and managerless Wolves, Chelsea have tended to struggle.

It’s fair to say it’s not quite going to plan...
Standard Sport prediction
18:10 , Oli GentChelsea made hard work of their opponents in the recent League Cup clash at Molineux, with Liam Delap sent off in a 4-3 win.
This time around, with home advantage, you would back the Blues to have enough about them to take full advantage of the predicament Wolves find themselves in.
Chelsea to win, 2-0.
Wolves team news
18:00 , Oli GentAs for Wolves, Rodrigo Gomes had surgery on a groin injury and is expected to be out until February next year.
Emmanuel Agbadou will be a big miss at the back as he is suspended, and Matt Doherty is also out with a knee injury.
Chelsea team news
17:50 , Oli GentPedro Neto could be in line for a return against his former club after he missed the trip to Qarabag with a knock, and Romeo Lavia was forced off in Azerbaijan with a thigh issue that could leave him out for several weeks.
Otherwise, it is as you were for the Blues. Talisman Cole Palmer looks to be sidelined until December, while defender Benoit Badiashile could return after the international break.
Dario Essugo looks set for a comeback in the new year, and Levi Colwill is out for much of the the season.
